About Oakland The Oakland renaissance is in full swing, weaving arts and culture into
the fabric of everyday life. Like its busy international port, for
generations Oakland has welcomed artists and innovators from all over
the world who have established homes here, significantly invigorating
the cultural landscape and celebrating creative expression. The city literally lights up its arts from innovative light-based public art installations to brightly shining historic
theater marquees in addition to vibrant artisan street markets, an edgy industrial arts scene, robust filming activity, annual festivals and performance seasons. The city's new Uptown Arts & Entertainment District and neighborhood gems make for a great day or evening out with a range of options for dining, shopping and exploring!
The most diverse city in the nation and gateway to the East Bay, Oakland has always held the arts close to its heart, with thousands of artists, hundreds art organizations and scores of passionate community arts patrons and advocates. Some of Oakland's notable arts and cultural organizations include the Oakland Museum of California, The Crucible, Black Dot Artists Collective, Eastside Arts Alliance, Oakland East Bay Symphony, Axis Dance, Project Bandaloop, and hundreds of large scale annual cultural events including Art & Soul, Chinatown Streetfest, Dia de los Muertos, Art Murmur and others.
