Driving South on Hollis, I have always loved the bold period statement made by the old Emeryville City Hall building. Approaching the intersection at Park, it just dominated the field of view. I am also attracted to contrasts, and was tickled when the new, modern, adjacent building was built. During the 1990s, Emeryville was in a cultural shift, away from its industrial past, and quickly moving toward the community it is today. Emeryville was moving into the future.
When I decided to do a photo essay illustrating my East Bay, this building was on my “A list”.
In order to avoid having cars in the shot, I chose a Sunday afternoon, set up my tripod, and began shooting. It was pure serendipity that the Model T drove through at that point. I only got one shot of it, then it was gone.
